Household storage
Moving and Household Storage in Medford and Dorchester
If your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up, sort what you need for the first week before you start filling a unit. A short packing plan can save you from digging through the back of the unit later.

Make three piles before move day
Set aside what comes with you, what goes into storage, and what can be donated or disposed of before the move. Keep identification, medication, keys, and move-in paperwork with you. Label storage boxes on two sides so the labels remain visible when stacked.
Measure the pieces that dictate the size
Start with mattresses, couches, appliances, and other items you cannot stack or turn easily. Sketch where those pieces will go. Use the size guide and calculator as a starting estimate, then compare that estimate against the actual unit layout and door opening.
Load for the first trip back
Group boxes by room. Put seasonal items toward the back and things you expect to need soon near the entrance. Leave a route to the items you may need before moving into the new place. Clean and dry belongings before packing, and confirm storage restrictions for anything you’re unsure about.
